Another week of the 2025 College Football season is in the books, and Week 5 provided us with a ton of historic moments for several programs.
Here is a summary of some of the craziest stats and records from Week 5:
Virginia defeated #8 Florida State 46-38 in double overtime. This is the Cavaliers’ first home victory over a Top 10 team since 2005 (also Florida State).
Paired with their victory over Florida State in 2019, Virginia has beaten FSU in back-to-back meetings for the first time ever.
Virginia rushed for 211 yards against Florida State. This is the first time since 2011 in which the Cavaliers have rushed for 150+ yards in five consecutive games (164 vs. Coastal Carolina, 257 vs. NC State, 379 vs. William & Mary, 206 vs. Stanford, 211 vs. FSU).
After beating Florida State, Virginia improved to 4-1. This is the first time the Cavaliers have started 4-1 or better in back-to-back seasons since 2003-2004.
Virginia is ranked #24 in the AP Top 25 after beating #8 Florida State. This is the Cavaliers’ first appearance in the AP poll since 2019.
#17 Alabama defeated #5 Georgia 24-21 on the road in Athens. The Tide snapped the Dawgs’ 33-game home win streak dating back to 2019.
In their loss to Alabama, Georgia never led at any point. That is the first game in which the Dawgs never held the lead since 2019, snapping a streak of 72 games where they led at some point.
Alabama led Georgia 14-0 early in the game, eventually winning 24-21. They have now won 87 consecutive games when leading 14+ points (last loss came in the 2016 National Championship to Clemson, where the Tide led 14-0 but lost 35-31).
In Alabama’s victory over Georgia, the Tide had fewer penalties (4) than the Dawgs (6). That is the first time a Kalen DeBoer-coached team had fewer penalties than their opponent since 2023 against Texas, when he was at Washington.
Alabama converted 13 third down attempts against Georgia. That is the highest amount of third down conversions Georgia has allowed in a game since 1995.
#1 Ohio State defeated Washington 24-6 on the road in Husky Stadium, snapping the Huskies’ 22-game home win streak dating back to 2021 (lost 40-13 to Washington State).
Ohio State has held each of its first four opponents to 10 points or less for the first time since 1973.
For their matchup with #6 Oregon, Penn State had a home crowd of 111,015. That is their 2nd-largest attendance in stadium history.
For their matchup with Auburn, Texas A&M had a home crowd of 108,449. That is their 5th-largest attendance in stadium history.
For their matchup with #22 Notre Dame, Arkansas had a home crowd of 75,111. That is their 10th-largest crowd in stadium history.
#9 Texas A&M defeated Auburn 16-10, as the Tigers start 0-2 in SEC play. Paired with their 0-2 starts to SEC play in 2023 and 2024, Auburn has now started 0-2 in SEC play in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
Auburn went 0-13 on third down against Texas A&M. That is the first time Auburn did not convert a single third down attempt in a game since 2006 vs. Georgia.
#11 Indiana defeated Iowa 20-15 on the road in Kinnick Stadium. That was the first time Iowa hosted a ranked opponent in 1,092 days (October 1st, 2022, vs. #4 Michigan).

Oregon won on the road at Penn State. The Ducks have now won their most recent road trip at Ohio State (2021), Michigan (2024), and Penn State (2025).
In #22 Notre Dame’s 56-13 victory over Arkansas, Jeremiyah Love became the first Notre Dame player with 2 receiving touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns in a single game in program history.

Arkansas allowed 42 points in the first half to Notre Dame, their most allowed in a half since 2005 against USC.
Vanderbilt defeated Utah State 55-35. Paired with their 70-21 victory over Georgia State last week, the Commodores have scored 50+ points in back-to-back games for the first time in 110 years (1915).
In #23 Illinois’ 34-32 victory over #21 USC, Illini QB Luke Altmyer became the first Illinois QB with a passing touchdown, rushing touchdown, and receiving touchdown since 1999.
#16 Georgia Tech overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat Wake Forest. They had been 1-67 in games where they faced a 17-point deficit over the past 20 seasons, improving that record to 2-67.
In the AP poll following Week 5, Indiana is ranked #8. This is the first time that the Hoosiers have been ranked in the AP Top 10 in back-to-back seasons in program history.

Duke destroyed Syracuse 38-3. That is the Blue Devils’ first victory by 21+ points on the road in ACC play since 2022.
Houston defeated Oregon State 27-24 in overtime, and the Beavers are now 0-5. This is the first time Oregon State has started 0-5 since 1996.
Houston’s victory over Oregon State improved their record to 4-0. This is the first time Houston has started 4-0 since 2016.
UCF lost to Kansas State 34-20. That loss snapped Scott Frost’s streak of 16 consecutive wins as the Knights’ head coach dating back to his first stint with the program in 2017.
West Virginia trailed Utah 28-0 at halftime at home. That is the Mountaineer’s largest halftime deficit in a home conference game since 2003.
West Virginia lost 48-14 to Utah at home. That is the Mountaineers’ largest margin of defeat at home since 2012 (L by 41 to Kansas State).
