Week 3 Statistical Summary
Breaking down some of the craziest stats and records from Week 3 of the 2025 College Football season.

Week 3 was by far the most entertaining of the 2025 season so far. In addition to the exciting finishes and last-second upsets, Week 3 was historic for several different programs in certain statistical categories.
Here is a summary of some of the craziest stats and records from Week 3:
#22 Indiana defeated FCS Indiana State 73-0, earning their largest shutout victory since 1901.
Indiana quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza and Alberto Mendoza combined for 374 passing yards and 7 passing touchdowns, one of the greatest single-game performances by brothers in College Football history.
Syracuse scored 66 points on FCS Colgate. This is now the 5th straight season in which the Orange have had a game where they scored 50+ points. That is Syracuse’s longest streak of seasons with a 50-point game since 1914-1918.
Georgia Tech defeated #12 Clemson on a 55-yard field goal as time expired. That is their longest game-winning field goal in program history.
Georgia Tech snapped their 9-game losing streak to Clemson, defeating the Tigers for the first time since 2014.
#14 Iowa State defeated Arkansas State on the road to improve to 4-0. Paired with last season’s 4-0 start, the Cyclones have started 4-0 in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.
#23 Michigan defeated Central Michigan 63-3. Their 60-point margin of victory is their largest at home since 1975.
#23 Michigan’s 60-point margin of victory over Central Michigan is the Wolverines’ largest against an in-state opponent since 1922.
New Mexico defeated UCLA 35-10 on the road in Pasadena, earning their first victory over a team actively in a Power 4 conference since 2008.
In the AP poll following Week 3, Georgia Tech is ranked #18 and Vanderbilt is ranked #20. This is the first week since October 2nd, 1984 where both Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt are ranked at the same time.
Virginia Tech lost to Old Dominion, falling to 0-3. This is the first time the Hokies have started 0-3 since 1987.
#12 Clemson lost to Georgia Tech, falling to 1-2. This is the first time the Tigers have started 1-2 since 2014.
#9 Illinois defeated Western Michigan 38-0, earning their first shutout of an FBS opponent since 2000.
Vanderbilt dominated #11 South Carolina 31-7, earning their first road win vs. an AP-ranked team since 2007.
Vanderbilt’s win over #11 South Carolina gave the Commodores their first victory in an SEC opener since 2011.
#5 Miami crushed #18 South Florida 49-12. Their 37-point margin of victory is their largest over an AP-ranked opponent since 2001.
#16 Texas A&M defeated #8 Notre Dame 41-40 on the road in South Bend, earning their first road victory over a Top 10 team since 2014.
The Aggies victory over #8 Notre Dame gave them their first road victory over a non-conference Top 10 team since 1979.
With losses to Miami and Texas A&M, Notre Dame is 0-2. Paired with their 0-2 start to the 2022 season, Marcus Freeman is the first head coach with two different 0-2 starts in Notre Dame history.
Despite starting 0-2, Notre Dame remained ranked in the AP Top 25 at #24. They are the first 0-2 team to be ranked since 1988 Michigan.
The Big 12 went a perfect 8-0 on Saturday, posting its second undefeated day this season. This is the first time the Big 12 has had two undefeated Saturdays in non-conference play in the same season since 2012.
#1 Ohio State defeated Ohio 37-9 and the Buckeyes have allowed just 16 points through the first three weeks of the season (7 to Texas, 0 to Grambling, 9 to Ohio). That is their fewest points allowed through three games since 1975 (also 16, coincidentally where they allowed totals of 0, 9, and 7 in their first three games).
West Virginia defeated Pitt 31-24 in overtime in the Backyard Brawl. That is the first time the Backyard Brawl went to overtime since 1997.
West Virginia had 62,108 in attendance for their matchup with Pitt, their largest home crowd since 2003.
Florida quarterback DJ Lagway threw 5 interceptions on the road against LSU. That is the 2nd-most interceptions in a game in Florida history.
Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar started 14/14 passing in the first quarter against Georgia. He is the first SEC quarterback to go 14/14 or better in any quarter in the last 20 seasons.
Houston is 3-0 for the first time since 2016, Vanderbilt is 3-0 for the first time since 2017, and Mississippi State is 3-0 for the first time since 2018.
