Throughout an exciting week 2, several schools saw first-time occurrences and did things that hadn’t been accomplished at their respective programs in many years.
Here is a summary of some of the craziest stats and records from Week 2:
Barry Odom became the first Purdue head coach since 1916 to start his career with the Boilermakers 2-0. Every other Purdue head coach over the past 109 years had lost either his first or second game at the helm of the program.
Washington scored 70 points against their FCS opponent UC Davis. That is the Huskies’ first 70-point game since 2016 (def. Oregon 70-21).
Alabama scored 73 points against UL Monroe. That is the Crimson Tide’s first 70-point game since 1973 (def. Virginia Tech 77-6).
Iowa State beat Iowa at home for the first time since 2011.
Wisconsin did not commit a penalty during their 42-10 victory over Middle Tennessee. That is the first time that the Badgers went a full game without being penalized since 2016.
Julian Sayin completed his first 15 passes against Grambling (started 15/15). That set the Ohio State record for the most consecutive completions to start a game.
Florida lost to South Florida at home. That is Florida’s first home loss to a school from the state of Florida not named Miami or FSU since 1938 (Stetson).
FCS Bryant beat UMass, earning their first victory over an FBS opponent in program history.
FCS Long Island beat Eastern Michigan, earning their first victory over an FBS opponent in program history.
Nebraska scored 68 points against Akron. That is the Huskers’ most points in a game since 2012 (73 vs. Idaho State).
Minnesota scored 66 points vs. FCS Northwestern State. That is the Golden Gophers’ most points in a game since 2001 (66 vs. Murray State).
Florida State scored 77 points against East Texas A&M (formerly Texas A&M Commerce). That is the Seminoles’ most points in a game since 2013 (80 vs. Idaho).
Florida State’s 74-point victory over East Texas A&M (77-3) tied the Seminoles’ program record for largest margin of victory.
Florida State’s 11 touchdowns against East Texas A&M tied the Seminoles’ program record for most touchdowns in a game.
Oklahoma State lost 69-3 to Oregon. That is the Cowboys’ largest margin of defeat since 1907.
Texas State defeated UTSA 43-36 to start the season 2-0. The Bobcats have now started back-to-back seasons 2-0 for the first time in 41 years, and for the first time ever as an FBS program.
New Mexico State defeated Tulsa 21-14 to start the season 2-0. This is the first time the Aggies have started a season 2-0 since 2014.
Iowa quarterback Mark Gronowski broke the record for fewest passing yards (127) by a Big Ten QB through the first two games of a season (minimum 35 attempts, since 1995). Gronowski had just 43 passing yards in Week 1 against Albany and 83 passing yards against Iowa State in Week 2.
